Established in 2006, the Dominican Schools Music Project brings music instruction to 1,700 students in seven Bay Area and Northern California schools associated with the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose. Through partnerships with each school, the DSMP provides every child with twice weekly, year-long, sequential and comprehensive music instruction, opportunities to study vocal and instrumental music in on-site after-school programs, professional concerts, and school and community performances. The DSMP was established in the belief that every child deserves a quality music education that supports learning in all school subjects, and contributes to their intellectual, emotional and social development and uses the Education Through Music (ETM) model to achieve these goals in collaboration with ETM-Bay Area. | “We couldn’t have afforded lessons ourselves, but now our daughter is demonstrating a discipline, focus and interest that she didn’t have before. This program has helped her with her identity as a musician. I think she will take her music beyond my imagination.” - Parent of a DSMP fifth grade student |
